How to Pick British Open Winners?

It’s good to check the course conditions, as the British Open typically presents the biggest weather challenge of all four majors. Also note the amount of success non-American golfers have overseas, as a non-American has won three of the last four and 10 of the last 15 events.

Also look for a first-time winner when picking the field, as the last nine British Open champions had never won the Claret Jug prior. The event is also typically close, as the winner of the British Open has only won by three strokes or fewer in 13 of the last 16 tournaments.

Why is Playing in British Open Pools Better Than Betting?

Competing in golf pools, rather than betting with a sportsbook, gives the user a better chance of winning more money – and winning in general. Pool and contest pick ‘em players have a much better chance of winning $1,000 rather than a +1000 bet hitting.

It is also cheaper to lose in pools. Small entry fees make for a better chance of winning big money. In order to play the +1000 bet, a bettor would have to wager $100 to win back $1,000. So losing a less likely bet becomes an economic issue as well.

There are also various types of pool games to participate in, giving you a more diverse gaming angle for the tournament rather than one specific betting market. Playing and interacting with a group of friends, co-workers, or family members is much more engaging than facing the sportsbook.

How to Play in British Open Pools?

The RYP British Open pools come in two styles of play. Those styles include tiered pools and salary cap pools.

Tiered pools separate the field into six different tiers based on their current World Golf Ranking. Simply select one golfer from each of the six tiers and watch the action! Each golfer will count towards your team’s final score, and the member of the team that has the fewest total strokes is the winner.

Salary cap pools assign a base ‘salary’ for each golfer based on their current World Golf Ranking. You’ll be assigned a fixed ‘salary cap’ that you must stay under in order to complete your six-man squad.

Once your group is assembled, scoring works the same way as the tiered format; just sit back and follow your squad!

British Open Past Winners

The last nine British Open winners have all been first-time winners, as many modern golfers haven’t been able to win this tournament two or more times. Padraig Harrington is the most recent back-to-back winner, while Tiger Woods won the two British Open events ahead of Harrington.

Ernie Els, however, is the most recent multi-time British Open winner with his victory in 2012. This is the one major American golfers struggle in the most, as a non-American has won three of the last four events and 10 of the last 15 overall.
